Herb Activity Sheets

Letter from Rosie

Hello boys and girls!

My name is Rosie. You've already met my friend Nick. He told you something about herbs. I am going to tell you what you can do with herbs.

We have made some Activity Sheets to help you. You can find them later.

Let me tell some things Nick and I have used herbs for.

  • If you like cooking, you may be able to make some biscuits flavoured with herbs.

  • Drying herbs is not difficult as long as you remember to pick them when they are dry!

  • You can use dried herbs to make lavender bags to put in your clothes drawers.

  • We both enjoyed finding stories about herbs.  Did you know that Roman soldiers put a plantain leaf inside their shoes when they marched? This was to stop blisters forming

One of my favourites is about Elecampane and Helen of Troy. Look at the Sheet called A spoonful of herbs - Stories from world history  to find that story.

  • In the summer holidays, we collected herbs to make a tussie-mussie.

Some of the things I have told you about, you can do by yourself.  But you should always ask an adult to check before you pick any of the herbs. A grownup may also want to help you do some of the things we have listed!!

Let Nick and me know if you discover an interesting way of using herbs.  You can find out how to contact us here.

Enjoy yourselves!

Rosie

p.s. Be safe - be herbwise.
